United Airlines - Suspends Denver to London Route

Denver Airport News
United Airlines has suspended its nonstop seasonal service from Denver International Airport to London Heathrow Airport for 2011.

“The market just hasn’t met the financial performance goals, so we elected not to return the service this spring,” Johnson said of the route. Johnson did not rule out the possibility of bringing back a Denver International Airport to London Heathrow Airportnonstop route sometime in the future if interest picks up.

“If the demand is there, we will consider it again,” Johnson said.
The two year-round nonstop international flights from Denver International Airport: a daily flight to London on British Airways and a daily flight to Frankfurt, Germany on Lufthansa Airlines.

Kim Day, Denver’s manager of aviation, and Tom Clark, executive vice president of the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp., have set the expansion of nonstop overseas flights as one of their top goals in recent years. Local officials have traveled to Tokyo for six straight years to try to get a direct flight to that Asian gateway market.
